"Paying It Forward"

We've all read stories about people paying for things for other people in a drive-through line or paying for someone else's groceries at the grocery story.

Doesn't it make them feel good and special and like they've really done something?  And they have, to a degree.  It's always good to do kind things for others without conceit and selfish accolades.  The Bible says when we do things for others we  should not ever let our right hand know  what our left hand is doing.  For when we do it to impress others or to make ourselves feel or look good, we've already gotten all the praise for doing it that we're going to get.

I was thinking about that this morning during my quiet time.  Jesus paid it forward for every single person alive on the planet currently, and for all who have lived since  His death and resurrection.   He went ahead of each one of us and paid for our sins.  Romans 6:23 tells us that the wages of sin is death.  He went ahead and died in our place for our sins on that cross on Golgotha.  He paid it forward so to speak so we wouldn't have to pay the debt we incur as we live and breathe without even giving it a second thought.

So much of what we think of as "normal", "okay", "right" and "good" is really just plain old sin!  ....and we've all done it!  Why?  Because the prince of the power of the air has convinced us by way of TV, movies, music, the media, newspapers in print and online (all under his domain), the Internet and other people that it's not sin it's okay!  But he's wrong and so are we.  Lust, pre-marital or extramarital sex, drugs, drunkenness, lying, cussing, idolatry, disrespecting our parents, not going to church, stealing, killing, etc., it's all SIN!  Especially not believing that Jesus came and was who he said he was is a sin.  John 3:17-18

But HE went on and paid the price and all we have to do to reap the rewards (or to get our "Happy" meal so to speak) is believe that He did it, trust Him to complete it and obey His command to go forward, sin no more and tell others about what He did and why.

You may ask "Why did  He do it?" so I'll tell you:  It wasn't for accolades of man, but simply to please His father, to do His father's  will and because He loves you, me  and every other human on the planet past and present!  Why would He love us?  Just because He loves us.

So my prayer this morning is Lord, let anyone reading this rise up and take their Happy Meal, it's been paid for with the precious blood of Jesus and there's nothing out there that money can buy that will fill you with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control like this meal can!  Amen.
