Are You Happy with Yourself?

This is a question that popped up today in my Bible study. Human beings, as a rule, base their happiness on how they feel and what their circumstances are. So on any given day, you could be as happy as a lark (whatever that means), or you could be as unhappy as...what, well, as unhappy as a person can be, just because of ... whatever!

I personally want real happiness, not happiness that depends on my circumstances. True happiness, lasting happiness, also known as blessedness, which stays with you through thick and thin, good days and bad days, no matter what you're going through.

The word used for blessedness or happiness in the Bible is makarios which means a sense of God's approval. It comes from within you when you see that sin is the source of all misery and unhappiness, and holiness is the root cure for it all.

The happiness I want comes from being in a right relationship with God. Romans 14:22 says: The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves.

This verse spoke to me because I realized how many times I've done something that deep within myself, I knew it just wasn't right for me. You know that feeling, I'm sure you've experienced it too, when that still, small voice inside you says, "hey, don't eat that or drink that, you've had enough". Right? But you go ahead and eat it or drink it anyway. Romans 14:20, says (NLT): Don't tear apart the work of God over what you eat remember, ALL FOODS ARE ACCEPTABLE, but it is WRONG to eat something IF IT MAKES ANOTHER PERSON STUMBLE. (21) It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything else if it might cause another believer to stumble. You may believe that there's nothing wrong with what you are doing, but keep it between yourself and God. Blessed (makarios = happy) are those who don't feel GUILTY for doing something they have decided is right. BUT if you have DOUBTS about whether or not you should eat something, YOU ARE SINNING if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. If you do anything you believe is not right, YOU ARE SINNING. (I would think that drink could replace the word "eat" here, wouldn't you? And maybe even anything else that that still, small voice tells you not to do.)

That is why people are not happy with themselves. They have sinned, somewhere, doing something, maybe repeatedly, maybe once, who knows, and they know it. When you add that to the fact that God's DNA is written on every cell in our bodies, we should know in our spirits when we are doing something we do not believe in and which is, therefore, a sin for us. How do I know that God's DNA is written on every cell in my body? Follow me....

One of the blogs I follow is New Wineskins. The author (Art a/k/a Ultraguy) posted this:

In my ~8-year walk with the Lord, including deep, diverse and increasingly voracious reading and listening, I’ve found satisfactory answers to most of those questions individually, but never one holistic enough to take in the scope that seems to positively leap off the page from one the most awesome passages in all of scripture, John 1:1-5 –

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Oh man, I just love that one. Love it!! If I could sneak into a hospice ward and whisper anything into the ears of dying unbelievers, that would be it.

In lesson number 22* of “DNA From the Beginning, an animated primer on the basics of DNA, genes and heredity,” (i.e., the building blocks of all life) we read that:

The genetic code had to be a “language” — using the DNA alphabet of A, T, C, and G — that produced enough DNA “words” to specify each of the 20 known amino acids. Simple math showed that only 16 words are possible from a two-letter combination, but a three-letter code produces 64 words.

Talking about DNA in this way — as words, as an alphabet and as a language — is something very much in the mainstream of science, as sites like this attest. In the context of history however, DNA is a very recent discovery. Read the rest of the blog HERE.

That blog post led me to this video JESUS CHRIST, DNA AND THE HOLY BIBLE which talks about the FIBONACCI SEQUENCE which is God's fingerprint on creation. Really, watch the video, he's superb at explaining it, and I, on the other hand, can barely comprehend it. But what this says to me is that God's DNA is imprinted on every cell of my body (and everything else in creation) which also tells me that I have the mind and conscience of Christ living within me every single moment of every single day!

Praise God! Now that makes me very makarios! Lord, may I hear and obey your voice today. May you be blessed also today.

Daniel, the Lions' Den, Brit Hume and Political Correctness

As we know from reading the first six books of Daniel, God established righteous men in the enemy camp of the King of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar. We read how Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego are thrown into the fiery furnace for not worshiping the golden image that the King had made only to be joined in the fire by their Savior and brought forth full, whole and untouched. We are also told how Daniel was brought in as advisor to the King, actually as an interpreter of the King's dreams because no one else could interpret them and given a position of high respect and honor in the King's administration.

Perhaps you have learned, like I have, that when a righteous person is raised to a position of high respect in an unrighteous kingdom, solely based on the gifts given to him by his maker, the unrighteous are going to feel threatened and therefore find it necessary to take away any power he may have. In this instance, the king's advisors con him into making a law that requires all people to fall on their faces and worship the king when the "bell tolls", and that that law cannot be changed. Daniel, being a godly man, ignored that law and kept to his usual schedule of prayer and quiet time with his God, also known as Jehovah or Yahweh.

Now, I'm sure that you would probably never guess this, but the king's advisors spied on Daniel and saw him praying to his God and not praying to the king, and (can you believe it?), they reported him. The king was forced by law to throw his trusted advisor into the lions' den. Daniel, too, is delivered out of the lions'den unscathed by his Savior/God. The king kills the bill and orders that Daniel's God is God and is the only God to be worshiped.

Well, here we are 2500 years later, plus or minus, and things haven't changed much. We all have to admit that the 21st century is a time where is it not politically correct to say the name of Jesus Christ, or anything about His gospel of peace and good news of salvation for all mankind at any time, but especially not on television and certainly not on the news. But three days ago, right in front of God and everyone, including the progressives and liberal left, Brit Hume, a man who seems to have been a news anchor since I was a child, was asked what his predictions for Tiger Woods were by the Fox News anchor who took his place, Bret Baier. Here is his unbelievably wonderful response:

Now, I haven't read anything specifically about this, but I would bet my house, car and my small bank account that Mr. Hume is catching pure, unadulterated hell from anyone who is not a Christian about this. He deserves a lot of prayer and encouragement from likeminded people right now. So, won't you stop what you're doing right now and ask God to bless him for his courageous comments? You might also ask him to prepare you for the day when it's required of you to step up to the plate for Jesus. Ask him to help you hit the home run or rather the "hole in one", if you will, that Brit Hume hit this week.

Giver or Taker....Which are You?

Read James 2:14-26 today. It is a section of scripture which often brings heated debate because it tells us that faith without works is dead. We are told in Ephesians 2:8: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. But James 2:14 says: What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

Lord, I've always been a taker. When a gift's been offered, I haven't hesitated to take it. Your Word says that you made all things and all things, therefore, belong to you (For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him. Col. 1:16). When kind words have been offered by a friend, I have eagerly soaked them up. When someone has been kind enough to make a meal for me, I have not hesitated to eat it. Whenever a beautifully packaged, thoughtful birthday, Christmas or other type of gift has been handed to me, I have unabashedly put out my hand to receive it. Your gift of salvation was given to me by you, and I took it with precious little thought given to the enormous price that was paid for it. Yes, my whole life has been about taking, Lord. I'm sorry for my self-centeredness, my selfishness. Forgive me for being so focused on my pleasure, my comfort, my need.

Give me your eyes today, Father. Help me to see those who are in need of a gift. The gift of a kind word, something to eat, some way to keep warm or be comfortable, and where there is need for a beautifully packaged gift to make someone's eyes shine because they know they're special...well, I pray that you would inspire me to accomplish it. For them, and for you. And your gift of salvation, Lord, use me to get the Word out. Let me be your own type of the united parcel service delivering the message of your gift of salvation to all who are looking or expecting to receive a gift that words can't describe, a price cannot be placed on and with a value thaat is beyond imagination. Use me today, I pray. Let me finally be a giver of the gifts you want people to receive.

James 2:14-26 tells us that faith without works is useless, that if we say we have faith and yet do nothing for you, what does it matter? Even the demons say they have faith, and they do nothing for you; in fact, they work against you. Lord, I do not wish to work against you, ever; and so, I ask that whatever I do for you that you would lead me in it, show me how to give gifts from your hand, with your love, your smile, your true caring within it. May the receiver feel the brush of your hand as they reach out to take it.

So be it.

Wishes for a Joyful New Year

I wish to you and your loved ones a happy, healthy, safe, spirit-filled new year.

As a child, this 50-something woman remembers thinking of the year 2000 as a time way far away and, therefore, probably unreachable. (You know how it is with kids -- 25 seemed ancient and 45 years seemed like two lifetimes). I also believed that 2001, A Space Odyssey would never really be possible, that Animal Farm and 1984 were really "out there" and there was no way that any of these things could possibly happen....until I became a spirit-filled Christian reading the Word of God for myself. I remember the first time I did a study on Revelation, when I was in my 20's, and being scared out of my wits.

Now it seems that 2010 looks to be a year of great "revelation" in the world. I believe 2010 will be a year in which many things that have been going on behind the scenes will be revealed to the masses.

It seems to me that every day we are spoon fed another little snippet of ongoing news articles. The Bible says that spiritual warfare is going on all around us, and I believe these days there are major, really big battles going on and soon satan will be cast out of heaven. I don't want to sound blasphemous, but if I, who am unpure and unholy, am sick of satan's shenanigans, just think about those who are pure and holy must feel about him. Is that an awful thing to say? Really. As I go about my life, I can honestly say I am sick and tired of living in this sin-filled world.

One of the things I think will happen in 2010 is that God will continue, with an ever increasing intensity, to reveal just how accurate the Bible is about the things that were prophesied to happen in these days. I pray that there will be many (besides the true followers of Jesus) whose eyes will be opened to the things that are being shown to us.

I also believe that things will continue to be revealed that show us just how great a hold satan has on the world. For examaple, the mind control and subliminal messages, etc., used within the entertainment industry. With the new digitized systems for television, who knows what messages are being sent to us every time we turn on the tube. The Vigilant Citizen blog has quite a few posts relevant to the music industry and symbolism found in music today. Plus, I listened to several you tube videos the other day which substantiated that there are messages unrelated to the music contained in most music videos that we have been being indoctrinated to since 1980.

There's a lot to be seen and heard in the world around us today for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear. We just have to take the time to pay attention and to care enough to try to decipher the messages He is sending to us. It is evident to me that God's word is being unsealed and that the holy Spirit is leading true believers of Christ into a complete understanding of the Word and the things prophesied in the Bible.

A lot of the things that are happening are shocking, sickening and real assaults to the senses. Go HERE to read about genetic engineering in humans and singularity which are particularly revolting ideas that mankind is slowly but surely incorporating into our everyday lives so that they will be willingly and easily accepted when it becomes easily performed and part of the "norm".

I am so thankful that God loved us enough to not only provide for our salvation; He saw fit to give us a clear depiction of what things to expect in the end days so we could recognize them and be prepared to stand against the evil one. Not only is His Word a book of history, love, salvation and redemption, it is a book of hope and assurance for those who love Him.

So, as He said so many times, "Fear not". He is for us and if He is for us, who can be against us? It will, no doubt, be a year of revelation, and I'm sure there will be many days of joy to be found as long as we are in Him.
