The world is full of people who say they are Christians; then again, the world is full of people who say they are "religious"; and again, there are many who say they believe in God. We can "say" we're anything. As my mother used to say, actions speak louder than words!
Who is God to you? The God I serve is the Holy God of the Bible. He is an awesome God. The One who created the universe and all that is in it. He is the Father, son and the Holy Spirit, The All Knowing One, The Beginning and the End, the Alpha and the Omega. His love in unfailing. I am amazed at how many times in the Bible that phrase is used (112 times in the New Living Translation) and it is almost always used with the word "faithful". In today's world, there is very little that you can attribute those three words to: unfailing love, faithful!
In so many relationships today, you just start feeling comfortable and the love you thought was there, disappears and the faithfulness you were counting on, is gone. Just ask Sandra Bullock, or Kate Winslet, or anyone of the many people in Hollywood, the sport worlds (Tiger Woods), or government (John Edwards, Bill Clinton, Mark Sanford, whose lives are so public and out there for all to see and experience the pain and humiliation that the lack of those two items cause.
The Lord, God of Creation, Jehovah, Yahweh is a 100% Holy God. In Him, there NO sin. He is also a 100% just God. Way back in the beginning, He laid out the rules, the dos and don'ts of life, so to speak, for mankind to live a life of love, happiness, peace and fellowship with each other and with Him. He expected us to live within the limits of His law and all would be well. But He also said that when you disobey the law, you will die.
God's law can pretty much be summed up in two laws that Jesus set forth: Love the Lord, God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength (and ONLY Him); and then love everyone else at least as much or more than you love yourself. Pure and simple. The rest of the law are laws that protect you from pain, suffering, sickness and disease -- laws that are for Your Own Good.
We have all, by choice, since that day in the garden, separated ourselves from God by deciding to follow our own desires and will for our lives. Do you know what God's will for your life is? How can you know unless you ask Him? The Bible says that God used to speak to people through His prophets and that now He speaks to us through His son through the Word of God.
When you create something, aren't you the owner of that creation? If you are a writer, an artist, a sculptor, a carpenter, whatever; if you create something out of nothing, you are the owner of that creation until you give it away or sell it, right? To my knowledge, God has not yet given away or sold His creation....the earth and all that lives on it, in it, around it, above it, ... it's all His, it was created by Him, for Him. When we walk away from God, we are taking our lives in our own hands and saying that we know more about everything than the one who created everything!
Wouldn't you like to have a personal, one-on-one relationship with the one who created everything? How special would that be? Think about it for a minute. He wants that with you. He's provided the Way, the Truth and the Life, in His son, Jesus Christ.
You see, God saw how men were choosing the road of disobedience and separation from Him and decided that He would provide a way for us to be brought back in to a right relationship with Him. (John 3:16) God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (17) For God did not send His son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
It doesn't stop there, though, because when you truly want to be reconciled to the one who created you, you want to know the Creator well and intimately, like a lifelong old friend, one who has way more intelligence, knowledge, wisdom, love, compassion, mercy, patience, kindness, goodness and self-control than you do; not to mention the fact that this friend created you and knew you before you were formed in your mother's womb. The only way to know God is to read about Him in His word on your own in your own time in your own Bible and let His Spirit introduce Him to you. Read the whole Bible, don't just pick and choose. If you want to truly know Him, who He is, what He stands for, what He loves, what He hates, how He expects us to live. He wants us to read His Book.
