A Day of Prayer and Fasting

To go a day without eating (on purpose) and to spend the time usually spent eating in prayer to God asking for forgiveness for our complete lack of respect, worship or love for Him and His statutes probably seems ridiculous to many people today, but I am sensing that that is exactly what our nation needs.

One cannot read the headlines in the paper these days without coming to the conclusion that the United States is on a crash course with things prophesied about in the days of old in the Bible. I am reminded of several Bible passages today, and I would like to share them with you. These are coming from the New Living Translation Bible for easy application, and you should understand that I believe the US could very well be Mystery Babylon the mother of all harlots spoken of in the Bible.

Jeremiah 51: 1-14

This is what the Lord says: I will stir up a destroyer against Babylon and the people of Babylonia. Foreigners will come and winnow her, blowing her away as chaff. They will come from every side to rise against her in her day of trouble. Don't let the archers put on their armor or draw their bows. Don't spare even her best soldiers! Let her army be completely destroyed. They will fall dead in the land of the Babylonians, slashed to death in her streets. For the Lord of Heaven's Armies has not abandoned Israel and Judah. He is still their God, even though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel. (emphasis mine.)

Flee from Babylon! Save yourselves! Don't get trapped in her punishment! It is the Lord's time for vengeance; he will repay her in full. Babylon has been like a golden cup in the LORD's hands, a cup from which he made the whole earth drink and go mad. But now suddenly, Babylon, too, has fallen. Weep for her, and give her medicine. Perhaps she can yet be healed. We would have helped her if we could, but nothing can save her now. Let her go; abandon her. Return now to your own land, for her judgment will be so great it cannot be measured. The LORD has vindicated us. Come, let us announce in Jerusalem everything the LORD our God has done.

Sharpen the arrows! Lift up the shields! For the LORD has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes to march against Babylon and destroy her. This is his vengeance against those who desecrated his Temple. Raise the battle flag against Babylon! Reinforce the guard and station the watchmen. Prepare an ambush, for the LORD will fulfill all his plans against Babylon. You are a city rich with water, a great center of commerce, but your end has come. The thread of your life is cut. The LORD Almighty has taken this vow and has sworn to it by his own name: "Your cities will be filled with enemies, like fields filled with locusts, and they will lift their shouts of triumph over you."

2Ch 7:14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land.

Joel 2:12-15 That is why the LORD says, "Turn to me now, while there is time! Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don't tear your clothing in your grief; instead, tear your hearts." Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and merciful. He is not easily angered. He is filled with kindness and is eager not to punish you. Who knows? Perhaps even yet he will give you a reprieve, sending you a blessing instead of this terrible curse. Perhaps he will give you so much that you will be able to offer grain and wine to the LORD your God as before! Blow the trumpet in Jerusalem! Announce a time of fasting; call the people together for a solemn meeting.

Let me preface all this by saying that in my opinion there are very few people representing us in Washington that you can believe. In other words, republican or democrat - it doesn't matter to me, I think that almost everyone in Washington is a liar and only working for their own pleasure, power and riches (like Abraham when He was intervening with God not to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah for Lot's sake, I would like to think there are some who are honest people in that city).

The Bible is very clear about the fact that God is very protective of the Jews. They are His chosen people, the "apple of His eye", His covenant people, and Israel is the land that He gave to them as their inheritance. The Bible tells us that God made everything and that everything He made belongs to Him. He was well within His rights to give the land of Israel to Abraham and his descendants through his son, Isaac, and Isaac's son, Jacob and his children, the 12 tribes of Israel.

God went so far as to say that He would bless those that bless the nation of Israel and He would curse those that curse Israel. (Genesis 12:3) God is a God of His word. (Eze 17:24)

There is no denying that the world is becoming very anti-semitic. The Iranians, the Hamas, Al Quaedi, the Hizbullah, the Taliban, the Syrians, the Jordanians, and other middle Eastern countries have vowed to remove them from the face of the earth, and it is very easy to go on line and find many countries throughout Europe who feel the same way -- not to mention plenty of groups and individuals throughout the U.S.

I was deeply shocked by the way the U.S. government responded last week to the news that Israel has given permission for the construction of 1600 additional housing units in East Jerusalem. This information was released just as Mr. Obama's administration had great hopes of re-starting peace talks in Israel. Hopefully, you noted the weather pattern that occurred immediately thereafter on the east coast of America. If not, read about it Here.

God does not play favorites. If the US curses Israel, you can believe that God will curse the US. We must not take His warnings lightly, and we need to be in prayer for the peace of Jerusalem. The Lord said that in the last days, he would make that city a "burdensome stone" for the all who come against it. The thought of what God could cause to happen here in our country should have everyone on their knees asking for His mercy.

I would like to share a couple of other links which I was lead to today which I believe will explore the gravity of our situation much better than what I can say myself.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and I would ask that you join me for a day of prayer and fasting on Sunday, March 21, 2010 (which means no food from dinner time on Saturday until breakfast on Monday and that at each time you would be having a meal that you spend that time in prayer asking for God's forgiveness and mercy for our country).
