Nepal adopted a constitution in 1990 that guaranteed each person the freedom to to profess and practice their own religion. however, Hinduism is recognized as the national religion.

Proselytizing is banned and carries a three year jail penalty, but no one thus far has been prosecuted. Most persecution comes from militant Hindus who aim to drive all Christians from the country.
